HES Website Information for YPM

Greetings Parents,
My name is Mr. Chris Brunson and I am the computer lab teacher at Harmony
Elementary School (HES). I am also the staff advisor for the Young Progressive
Male program (YPM).
The YPM program is designed to serve as a mentoring program for the young men
at HES. The focus of this program is to foster positive relationships, academic
reinforcement as well as community awareness amongst our young men in grades
1st 5th at HES.
We will do monthly empowerment sessions when guests from the community will
come and give the young men a positive, encouraging and inspiring message
concerning their futures.
We will also have weekly Dress for Success Day
every Wednesday. Each Wednesday, we encourage all young men in the program,
if at all possible, to wear dress shirts and ties or a nice polo color shirt to school as
a sign of unity. We will meet every 4th Thursday of the month from 3:45 p.m.
4:45 p.m. (except Nov. & Dec. we will meet the 3rd Thursday due to holiday
break) every young man must have a ride home or be actively enrolled in the
LEAP program in order to stay for the meeting.
Lastly, at the end of the year, we will have a banquet to honor, salute and celebrate
every young man in the program. This year, we will do fundraisers to offset the
cost of the banquet and a field trip to The College Football Hall Of Fame. Every
YPM must participate in the fundraisers in order to benefit from proceeds.

YPM Monthly Meeting Dates & Expectations

Parents
Please ensure boys are at the meetings and picked up on time or actively enrolled in
the leap afterschool program. I have listed all the meeting dates below. The College
Football Hall Of Fame Trip will be in the spring. Date TBD.
Each meeting will be a theme meeting and all boys are expected to attend all the
meetings unless prior notice has been given to Mr. Brunson. Missed meetings will
result in boys minimizing their chance to attend end of year field trip.
This year I will implement an YPM weekly log sheet. This sheet is to assist in
accountability for the YPM code of conduct. This will not replace any homeroom
behavior sheet. The YPMs will be solely responsible to return and pick up their
weekly log sheets with the exception of 1st graders. I will pick up and issue their new
log sheets.
We will do additional fundraisers of Coke product and bake sales. The fundraisers
will aide on offsetting cost for various activities.
