Dedicated to
Monsters who want to be kind

Love and kindness can change a Monster or bully into a

friend, but not all monsters or bullies want to change.
Sometimes its best to avoid Monsters and bullies if you can.

(Drawing: Boy lying in bed.)

The boy had been put to bed, but he could not go to sleep. As
he lay in bed in the dark, in the silence, he thought he heard a
noise. Then again he heard it.
9

(Drawing: Monster under the bed.)

The noise was a growl coming from under the bed.

Grrrrrrrrrrr. Dont do dee actions, said a shakey voice from
someone listening to this story.
10

(Drawing: Monster peeking.)

Then without further delay, the Monster appeared peeking

over the side of the bed.
11

(Drawing: Boy peeking out from under his covers.)

The boy was so frightened, he pulled his blanket and sheet

over his head, but he became so curious that he peeked out to
see the Monster who stood beside the bed.
12

(Drawing: Monster as described.)

He had large green eyes with red veins and a large head
covered with long dark blue hair. And he was tall and had fat
blue fingers with stubby claws.
13

(Drawing: Boy talking to the Monster.)

Then fear changed to hope when the boy remembered

something his father said, and so the boy looked up at the
Monster and said, "I love you and forgive you if you want me
to."
14

(Drawing: Monster with tears splashing onto the floor.)

Tears began to fill up the Monster's eyelids and then big tear
drops began to roll down his cheeks, over his belly, and
splash onto the floor. As he cried, the Monster said, "Nobody
ever said that to me before. I am so sorry I scared you."
15

(Drawing: Monster sobbing loudly and tears splashing.)

The Monster sobbed loudly, and the boy said, "I forgive you.
Do you want to be my friend?" The Monster nodded as he
wiped away more tears that also splashed onto the floor.
16

(Drawing: Monster smiling.)

The Monster smiled and said, "Nobody ever wanted to be my

friend before." He felt so happy that the boy wanted to be his
friend because the Monster had been lonely for too long.
17

(Drawing: Monster shrugs.)

The Monster said as he cried, "I don't want to hurt or scare

people anymore. How can I stop scaring people?"
18

(Drawing: Boy talking to the Monster.)

Maybe you could join a Monster Support Group of other

Monsters who want to learn to be kind and not hurt or scare
people anymore, said the boy.
19

(Drawing: Monster talking to the boy.)

"I am so afraid of going back to scaring little boys by

growling under their beds at night," said the Monster.
20

(Drawing: Boy talking to the Monster.)

The boy said, "That's the same thing other Monsters want: to
stop growling under children's beds at night."
21

(Drawing: Monster smiling.)

The Monster smiled, but his long sharp yellow teeth were
showing.
22

It helps you to change something in yourself when a group of

people who have a similar problem, encourage you to
change, instead of your trying to do it alone. Not all
Monsters want to change.
