Maximize Profit Project
Maximize Profit Project
There are two other linear inequalities that must be met. These relate to the fact that the
manufacturer cannot produce negative numbers of items. These inequalities are as follows:
4. To solve this problem, you will need to graph the intersection of all four inequalities
on one common XY plane. Do this on the grid below. Have the bottom left be the origin,
with the horizontal axis representing X and the vertical axis representing Y.
3: 4x + 3y= 55
-4x
-4x
3y = -4x + 55
y= -4x/3 +55/3
y= -4x + 18.3
4: 3x + 2y = 39
-3x
-3x
2y= -3x + 39
y= -3x/2 + 39/2 y= -3x/2 + 19.5
Once graphed you can see the points at (0,0),(0,18.3),(13,0) & (7,9).
5. The above shape should have 4 corners. Find the coordinates of the ordered pairs that
make up these corners. For the intersection of the two slanted lines you will have to
solve the 2 by 2 system made up of their equations.
P= 72x + 23y
P(0,0)
P(0,18.3)
P(13,0)
P(7,9)
72(0) + 23(0)= 0
72(0) + 23(18.3)= 420.90
72(13) + 23(0)= 936
72(7) + 23(9)= 711
Based upon the profit function and coordinates, if only the computer desk are
produced and sold the profits will be maximized. The coordinate (13,0) states
that 13 more desks will be made with a profit of $936.
7. Reflective Writing.
Did this project change the way you think about how math can be applied to the real
world? Write one paragraph stating what ideas changed and why. If this project did not
change the way you think, write how this project gave further evidence to support your
existing opinion about applying math. Be specific.
This method is helpful as long as you know the specific functions and steps. Math is a
very important part of our daily lives. If we do not know the minimum knowledge we could not
complete simple tasks. I can agree if you know how to solve this material that it would benefit
yourself. By learning this material I can say that I learned a new way to think about how a
problem can be solved. Thank you math 1010!
