By Tom

Antarctica
Antarctica is 14,000,000 km2, it is almost twice

the size of Australia and is bigger than Europe.

The name Antarctica comes from a Greek word

meaning opposite to the north.

The South Pole is found in Antarctica.
The cold and dry conditions in theDry

Valleysregion of Antarctica are so close to those

on Mars that NASA did testing there for the Viking
mission.

Robert Falcon Scott

Robert Falcon Scott led two expeditions to the

South Pole. Captain Robert Falcon Scott, CVO, RN
was a British Royal Navy officer and explorer who
led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions: the
Discovery Expedition, 190104, and the ill-fated
Terra Nova Expedition, 191013. At a distance of
150 miles from their base camp and 11 miles from
the next depot, Scott and his companions died from
a combination of exhaustion,starvationand
extreme cold.
