Flute Methods
Week 5

Comments:
Emmanuel Pahuds performance of the Bach Partita was executed very
well. He had a very nice, rich tone with very few signs of breathiness.
I thought the tone complemented the piece; it wasnt too heavy,
allowing the Partita to remain light and dance-like. I enjoyed his ability
to easily transition between the low and high registers, especially while
doing so at a fast tempo (i.e. 0:25). His posture was really good. I
liked how Emmanuel moved with the music, instead of acting like a
statue and staying in one spot. He kept a 90 degree angle with his
flute most of the time. His fingers looked as though they were free of
any tension, allowing him to beautifully execute his runs. In addition,
his chin stayed away from his chest. Also, his embouchure was great
the entire time. I was able to see a little change in his embouchure to
better suit the register he was playing in. After examining his mouth, I
didnt detect any sign of a tear drop lip. Therefore, he had the
center of the headjoint hole lined up with the center of his mouth/lips.
His technique was stellar (articulation, phrasing, breathing, etc.). I
really loved how he tapered the last note of each phrase! This was
truly a wonderful performance!
