This course will familiarize the student with advanced computer aided drafting and computer aided
machining. Students will design, and manufacture projects using the Master CAM software computer
program to communicate with Computer Numerical Control machine tools. Students will work with
advanced 3D-solid geometry tutorials. (Prerequisites: CPMT1601, CPMT1605, CPMT1610, CPMT1615,
CPMT1625, CPMT1640, CPMT1641, CPMT1650, CPMT1661 or equivalent) (2 Credits: 2 lecture/0 lab)

1. Safety considerations in CNC set-up & operations
2. Application of G & M code programming language
3. Advanced 3-D surface creation
4. Advanced surface tool path creation
5. Advanced set-up and operation of CNC mill and lathe

D. LEARNING OUTCOMES (General)


1. Using Master CAM software, design and create 3-D models of complex geometry
2. Using Master CAM software, use primitive features to build a solid model
3. Using the Master CAM software, use the Extrude-Cut and Extrude-Body tools to create solid features
4. Using the Master CAM software, blend, trim, fillet, and join surfaces
5. Using the Master CAM software, create a tool path for the drill, mill, and other feature tool paths
6. Learn to organize and manage drawings and NC files with the Windows file system
7. Select the proper order of operations related to the design needs of a product
8. Apply the proper tool selection and speeds and feeds for successful machining
9. Generate and verify tool path operations
10. Generate a G-code program with the Master CAM Editor software
11. Perform a transfer of the NC file G-code to the CNC mill & lathe using the Master CAM editor
functions
12. Create 3-D surface tool paths
13. Machine a 3-D feature project in the CNC mill
14. Demonstrate proper tool set-up using the CAT 50-taper tool collets
15. Perform tool length touch off using the "hand wheel" mode
16. Enter tool length offset and work offset in the correct tool register
17. Select and verify a program with "dry run" or "single block" options in the CNC machine
18. Practice all safety procedures during set-up and operation of CNC equipment
