WithinthiscourseIwroteinthreegenresincludingaprofile,anevaluation,anda
position.Ihadtoadaptmyargumentaboutgeneticallymodifiedorganismstoaddressdifferent
issuessurroundingthetopicandutilizingdifferentstylestoaccomplishthat.Iwasalsosureto
citeandcreditanysourceswhereIfoundmultimedia,factual,oreditorialinformationthatwas
utilizedinmypapers.
Theprofilewasadescriptiveessayandintroductiontomyissuethatusedlargely
objectiveinformationtopersuademyaudience.IntheevaluationIchoseaspecificconcept
withinthelargeissueofgeneticmodificationandfocusedontheargumentssurroundinglabeling
geneticallymodifiedfood.Ipresentedtothegeneralpublicscientificevidence,studiesonthe
Americanperspective,andopinionsthatrefutedanythoughtsofdangerofGMfoodsand
explainedthroughhistoricalprecedentandstudieswhatwouldhappentoconsumerchoiceif
thosewerelabeled.Mypositionpaperutilizedmoreemotionallanguagealongwithscientifically
interpretedresearchandtopersuademyreaderstomypointofviewintermsoflabelingGM
foodsandgeneticmodificationingeneral.Iusedtabulatedmultimediaintwoofmypapersto
easilytranslatealotofdatatotheaudienceaboutthelongevityofGMuseinoursocietyandits
futurepotentialtherebyincreasingthelogosofmyargument.

Ichosethisissuebecauseofitsrelevanceincurrentsocialdiscussionsanditspotential
fordiscoveryandinnovationthatcouldbethwartedbyunfortunatefearmongering.Mypapers
wereoriginalcompositionsofmyinterpretationsaboutanissuethatIwasundecidedonbefore
thecoursestarted.Ifocusedontheissueoflabelingfoodsbecauseithadthemostclear
argumentsoneithersideandhadmuchliteratureconcerningtheissueduetoitsdiscussion
withingovernments,inthemedia,andontheInternet.AsIunderstoodtherealityofthe
scientificresearchintothesubjectandlackofevidenceforantiGMsentimentsIwasconvinced
whatsidetoargueforandchosethelogosthatthestrengthofscientificevidenceprovidedasmy
mainrhetoricaldevice.Additionally,asIunderstoodthepotentialgainsforhumanityusingthe
toolsofgeneticmodification,Ialsounderstoodthatfuturediscoverieswerebeingthreatenedby
ignorantactionsofthepresentandpresentedthisasmyethicalargumentopposingthefearof
andrashactionsagainstgeneticmodification.Examplesofmoderneffortstobettertheplanet,
suchasprovidingvitaminAthroughricetofamiliesthathavevitaminAdeficientfor
generation,werepresentedtoinvokeanemotionalargumentforgeneticmodification.
MyworkwasreviewedandIreviewedworktocorrectstyleandsurfaceerrorsonmy
peerswork.IprovidedfeedbackthatIhopemadethereworksamorecompleteandrhetorical
pieceofwriting.IsuggestedstrongerthesesforbothofthepapersIreviewedandcorrected
minortypos.Ialsoencouragedsourcestobeusedwhentherewerenoneinthepaperinonecase.
Iadvisedexpandingonsomeofthestrongestissuesbroughtupinthepapertobringinsources
thatdiscussorexemplifytheauthorspurpose.Onepaperwasonthereligiousidealstowardsthe
LGBTcommunityandtheotherwasontherisingcostofeducation.Iusedtheirsuggestionsto
improvethelogosandethosofmypapersthroughinclusionofsourceintroductionsinmy

writing.Iwasalsoabletorecognizealackofathesisinsomecasesandaddressedthatinmy
writing.Thecoursehashelpedmebetterunderstandmyaudience,formarebuttal,andhowto
appropriatelyorganizeapaperandconductresearchtobetteraccommodateaspecificallydesired
resultand/ortheaudience.
