Basic Guide to Breeding Percentages


The following table shows the basic percentages of draught blood when breeding to a pure (100%) draught
each mating. We have included basic breeding terms in relation to their relevant percentages.

The Aim of the ACHHR is to produce a coloured draught horse type by utilizing a combination of recognized
heavy horse breeds & coloured foundation horses.
Below is a table showing possible matings within the ACHHR Studbooks, and the draught percentages of their
offspring. Just remember the table always represents the % of draught blood each horse carries.
As a general rule, when working out draught percentages for proposed matings, take each parents draught
percentage and divide by two. Then add the two back together.
Eg: Parent 1 is 62.5% draught / 2 = 31.25
Parent 2 is 71.87% draught / 2 = 35.93
31.25 + 35.93 = Foal 67.18% draught

Foals with a draught percentage over 75% (that meet all other registration requirements) are eligible for
Studbook Registration.
Foals with under 75% draught blood will be registered in the appropriate Foundation section.
