Possessive Pronoun Explanation

I. What are possessive pronouns?
i. They are special types of pronouns that show ownership and possession. (Dreptul de

proprietate, posesia )
I my
You.. your
He his
She .. her
*It its
We our
Theytheir
Who?.......Whose?

This is my coat.
Thats your problem.
Johns visiting his mother.
Anna likes her brothers.
The club has its meeting on Tuesdays.
Our friends Joe and John are coming.
The children have spent all their money.
Whose coat is this?

II. Possessives dont change for singular and plural


i. Our friend.our friends ( NOT ours friends) X
III. Note how we use his and her: if a boy or man has something, we use his, if a girl or woman has something, we
use her
i. I saw John and his sister yesterday (NOT...John and her sister..)
ii. Mary and her brother are students. (NOT.Mary and his brother)
IV. Possessives: MINE, YOURS ETC

we use mine, yours etc. WITHOUT NOUNS


examples: Thats not my coat. This is mine. (NOT This is the mine) X
Their garden is much bigger than ours.
Is that your car? I thought yours was blue.

V. V. Reflexive Pronouns: Myself, Yourself etc.

We use reflexive pronouns when an object is the same person/thing as the subject
Examples:
a. I cut myself shaving this morning (NOT I cut me)
b. He is teaching himself to play the guitar.
c. We must ask ourselves some questions.
