COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is offered as both a beginning and advanced musical theatre class.
Students will discover various composers, lyricists, choreographers throughout
theatre history.
Students will learn and perform two contrasting monologues and two contrasting
songs during
the course of the class. Students will also develop their own musical numbers for
performance.
It is designed as an auditioning skills and appreciation course. For advanced
students who will
be auditioning for musical theatre, theatre, or music departments at four year
universities or colleges,
it will also require students to learn how to put a professional performance resume
together, along with a portfolio.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
to strengthen vocal ability, music reading skills, dance techniques, and acting
to enlarge the performers musical theatre repertory
to reinforce the connection between text/musical analysis and performance
to develop techniques for auditioning and performing
to provide the performer with techniques to aid in their own learning
to assess strengths and weaknesses in performance and propose solutions for
improvement
to further the performers understanding of musical theatre history and tradition
to provide a foundation for further study and development
MATERIALS:
Binder for building repertoire
Journal
Bring technology i.e. Laptops/tablets no cell phones
DRESS:
Students are expected to dress appropriately for movement based exercises. Ladies
are expected to wear shorts under skirts. Footwear should either be jazz shoes,
character, or ballet shoes geared towards their particular scene work.
GRADES:
GRADES WILL BE 30% PARTICIPATION BASED AND 70% TESTING BASED.
