Phases of the Moon

Objective Students will be able to identify and accurately model the shapes of the moon
phases.

2. Big Understanding
Students will recreate the moon phases by using the frosting from the Oreo cookies. The
students will also describe the fact the moon has different phases.

Students will complete a moon phase handout that shows the moon phases placed in
order.

Use a moon phase placement activity worksheet
Use the cookies to make the shapes of the phases of the moon
Students will work in co-operative groups while writing descriptions and drawing
the corresponding positions of the sun and Earth compared to the moon.
