ADVICE FROM SOMEONE

WHOS BEEN THERE

Keep track of all money that is spent and owed.

Consider safeguarding bank accounts and other
assets so that the gambler cannot access them.
If possible, only give them access to money for
daily necessities until the situation improves.

Do not rescue the gambler by paying off debts.
This will only enable the person to continue
their behavior.

Seek professional help for financial advice,
counseling and support.

Accepting that my wifes gambling was an addiction

was one of the most challenging actions I had to take.
I had feelings of resentment, anger, fear and isolation.
If you are struggling with a loved ones gambling
addiction, you are not alone. Millions of families have
struggled with the same feelings you are experiencing
now. Talking with others, along with help from my
counselor, has enabled me to set healthy boundaries,
let go of unwanted emotions, and be there for those
relationships most important to me.
