Fr. Tom Healy will lead an honest, informa ve discussion on this very important
topic. Chris ans are being violently a acked and martyred in many parts of the
world today including the United States! Our media refuses to acknowledge or
report that there is a world war being raged against Chris anity. All are encouraged
to a end and to invite family and friends.

How do we know God?

The readings and their message
Proverbs 9:1-6
This story about wisdom can lend itself to various interpreta ons.
Although wisdom is a personifica on, it is more than a human
figure. It could have a divine aspect, could be a reference to an
ancient deity or a cosmic being. Wisdom is pleased to give itself in
a gratuitous way to those who lack it. The descrip on of the
house and the banquet seems to allude to the temple and ritual
banquets or the holy meals from the Jewish tradi on.
Ephesians 5:15-20
Once again we are oered a lesson in contrast. Chris ans must
live a wise life, not like the ignorant and fools. The urgency of this
lesson is probably due to the common belief that me was short
and the end was near; therefore, there would cease to be opportuni es. The ignorance referred to here, is the inability to make
ra onal conclusions in prac cal situa ons. Paul seems to want to
invite the Chris an community to remain vigilant, wai ng for the
husband with their lamps lit.
John 6:51-58
The dialogue regarding the Bread of Life con nues and once again
Jesus clearly declares that his body is the real food and his blood
the real drink. In a literal sense, this means Jesus is truly human.
It is a proclama on of faith in the Incarna on. On another lever, it
recalls the propi atory vic m in the cult. In this sense, Jesus is also
food and drink; first as a vic m of the sacrifice on the cross and
then as Eucharis c food and drink. Jesus develops this metaphor
by saying that it is how we become one with what we eat; those
who eat his body have an in mate union with him. This means
that Jesus not only visits those who receive his body and blood,
but he remains in them forever. Jesus is the bread from heaven
that did not come from the clouds; instead it came from God
himself.
Homily reflec on
Each me we have a family event or any occasion to celebrate
something, we share food. We make an eort to prepare the best
dishes and go out of our way in their presenta on. It is said that
we are not friends with someone un l we sit down to eat with
them. Jesus goes beyond that. This is not just about dining at the
table of Gods abundance, which in itself is plenty. It is also about
ge ng to know God, and of entering in his wisdom. How do we
know God? One method of learning is through the doctrine. Another very important way is by a ending his Eucharis c table.
prayer opens us up another way and it is not just about learning
who God is. In learning about God, we also discover who we are,
because in dining at his table we become in mately united with
Jesus, who is our bread. So what is the purpose of knowing just
who we are in our daily life? Many mes we live our life as if we
were robots. We get up in the morning, go to work, return home
exhausted, eat, and go to sleep; and we do this day a er day. By
failing to dedicate any me to feed our spirit and faith with the
Eucharist, we begin to internally wither. We con nue going o to
work, but soon will see how our rela onships with others grow
distance and colder. We dont have me for them. In addi on, if
we dont have me to nourish ourselves with God, our lives become bi er and turn more and more dicult, because we dont
know exactly who we are. The Eucharist gives us strength and
also a sense of community and family, which we need to con nue
living internally and externally.
For reflec on
How much me have I dedicated to my family this week? How
much me have I dedicated to God? Am I starving because I am
not ea ng the Eucharis c bread, the bread of life that is Jesus?
Am I becoming distanced in my rela onships with others, because
I dont take me to connect with myself and with God?

No anda
mariposeando, nerviosa y preocupada. La
sabidura enva a sus doncellas a invitar a
todos a su casa. Los invitados no enen que
tener ningn talento o conocimiento en parcular. Tan slo necesitan ser personas de
buena voluntad y sen do comn.

l, a quien comulgamos.
