Annabel Lee Analysis
It alludes to the winged seraphs of Heaven, which are the angels and through that
allusion, he is basically saying that their love is worth of the angels. It talks about a kingdom by
the sea which may be an allusion to the Greek story of Perseus. Where a man saved a maiden
from a kingdom by the sea and they fall in love but in a slightly different situation. It talks about
interrupted love which is both disrupted by her highborn kinsmen and death, similar to the
classical story of Romeo and Juliet. Similarly to the Romeo Juliet story, the writer chooses to die
with his loved one rather than live on without them. He alludes to the absolute happiness in
Heaven and then says that love is not even half of his own with her.
