Students expressing themselves through poetry using resources accumulated in the past lessons.
Students will do outside research in order to create a comprehensive poetry blog about their identity.

Students will understand that


identity is often taken for granted
and that there are some places
where people remain unable to be
who they are. Thus to celebrate our
freedom students will have a 2
working periods, one in class and the
other in the computer to work on
their end of unit project.

all the tasks presented in the next
two days.

Activity

Class 1: Lead discussion regarding


Leelah, about freedom and human
dignity. Not about whether students
agree with lifestyles or not, or whether
students believe certain religions are
bad. But, the idea that people exist,
and deserve the opportunity to be
themselves because identity is integral
to the human experience.
Afterward read the #Nofliter Identity
Blog handout to them and have them
start working alone.
Walk around and be open to questions.

Class 2: Re-explain the assignment


then take them to the computer lab
and have them work. Once again
surveying to see if work is progressing
on schedule.

Students will re-read and discuss


their feelings in regards to Leelahs
letter.
They will listen to instructions given
by the teacher and begin working.
They will come up with a found word
poem using Leelahs letter and their
own Where Im From Poem.
They will think of outside research
they could do.
Next class they will follow instruction
and being working on their Tackk
blog.
Working independently, start blog
that could be finished at another
time if necessary and send it to the
teacher.
