Abstract

For any country to achieve sustainable development, the quality of its education should be
ameliorated. This paper tries to explicate the concept of sustainable development, education for
sustainable development and scientific discipline and technology education for sustainable
growth. This paper also offers an insight into the various challenges facing science and
technology education in Nigeria, such as deficiency of qualified science and technology
education teachers, overcrowding in science laboratories and workshops, inadequate support,
lack of instructional materials and corruption. This paper suggests way forward on how to
resolve these problems facing science and technology education. This is done through the
allocation of adequate funds for science and technology education by various tiers of
Government, building and equipping of modern laboratories and workshops and establishment
of science and equipment centres.

Conclusion
Science and technology education plays a very important role in the economic development and
social progress of any nation. For sustainable development to be achieved emphasis will be on
science and technology education. Government should encourage teachers and students in
science and technology education. The government should make certain that funds allocated to
science and technology education should not be diverted for other purposes if sustainable growth
is to be attained. If these problems are addressed sustainable development will be achieved in the
nation.
