GENERAL CLASS RULES AND EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL LATIN CLASSES

1. SUPPLIES:
Every day you are in class I expect you to bring your notebook, the current text we are
using, and a pen or pencil. I will deduct points from your supply or participation grade
if you dont.

The tardy rule is strictly enforced.

Listen when listening is appropriate.
Please raise your hand if you wish to speak or answer a question.
If it is on the board, it may be on the test.
Make up all work promptly.
No gum, soft drinks, or food can be consumed in class--water is fine.
The only extra-credit possible is the bonus section on most tests or quizzes.
Work on only Latin in Latin class.

3. BATHROOM BREAKS--PASSES:
At the front of the room near the door is a clipboard with a sheet of paper on which you
should sign out with the times of your departure and return and your destination. If you can, please
wait for an appropriate time to leave--you do not have to ask me to leave. Only one student
at a time should be out of class. If you need to go to the clinic, I have to write a special pass
--and let me know if you would like a student to accompany you. Be sure to have all clinic passes
signed by the nurse.
4. ABSENCES AND MAKE UP POLICY:
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IT to find out what you missed when you were absent.
If you are in a block class do not forget to see me even though you do not have Latin that day.
If you know in advance you will be absent, I expect you to get your assignments in advance
and come to class prepared when you return. If you are on a field trip for another class,
your Latin assignments are due when you return. Be sure to ask if homework you prepared
was checked when you were absent.
NOTA BENE: If you miss a test or quiz on the day of your absence AND if you
were present for the review or were present when I announced the test or quiz, I will expect you
to make up work ON THE DAY YOU RETURN TO CLASS--AND USUALLY RIGHT AT THE
START OF CLASS.
5. OFFICE HOURS AND COMMUNICATION:
Fixed office hours are during lunch on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. I am at school most
days by 8:00 , and if you would like to meet either before or after school, please let me know the
day before. My planning periods are 3th and 4th periods, and I will be available then also by
appointment. You may reach me by phone at 823-8700 or you may e-mail me for assignments
at <cmann@k12albemarle.org> Assignments will be posted daily on my school web page.
6. A FINAL NOTE : Do not let personal or academic problems linger. See me or your guidance
counselor to solve problems. Let me know of extenuating circumstances for poor test or quiz
performance. Take advantage of all possible make-up opportunities. Ask all the relevant
questions you want. Respect the rights, property, and feelings of others in class. Expect
to study Latin at least 20 minutes a day in order to succeed.
