FMCG
Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) is the fourth largest sector in the Indian eco
nomy. The FMCG sector has grown at an annual average of about 11 per cent over t
he last decade. Retail market in India is estimated to reach USD450 billion by 2
015, with organized retail accounting for a 14 18 per cent share; this is likely t
o boost revenues of FMCG companies. The FMCG sector in India generated revenues
worth USD36.8 billion in 2012, a 5.7 per cent rise compared to the previous year
. The strong growth in 2012 should come as no surprise given the impressive perf
ormance of the sector over the years. Over 2006-12, the sector s revenues posted a
CAGR of 15.2 per cent to 1.
Broadly speaking, the FMCG sector can be classified into 4 main segments, as men
tioned:
Household Care, for e.g. Fabric wash, Household cleaners
Personal Care, for e.g. Oral care, Hair care, Feminine hygiene
Food & Beverages, for e.g. Health beverages, Snacks, Ice cream
Health Care, for e.g. OTC products and Ethicals
