COMPLETE SPECIFICATION.
Improvements in and relating to Automatic Fire Arms.
We, Axenmotacer Borors, Bofors,
Sweden, « Swedish Compungy do. hereby,
declare 'the nature of this invention and
jn what manner the same is to be per
8 formed, to be particularly described and
ascertained in and by tho following state-
ment >—
‘The present invention relates to a feed-
ing and ramming device for use in auto.
40 matic fire arms-in which the cartridge
magazine is situated above the loadin
tray from which eartzidge .eupplie
thereon is fed and rammed down into the
bazrel by means of an automatically oper.
45 ating rammer. ‘The characteristic feature
lies substantially in the fact. that the
Vottom of the magazine consists of two
rollers of star-shaped cross section totat~
ably mounted in the magazine side by side,
20 the lower or bottom sides of whieh,
together with the loading tray form a
guide for the cartridge to be rammed.
The rollers may also be mounted to
slide transversely in such a manner that
% hy feeding a cartridge down to the loading
fay the rollers are moved apart, thos
jermitting the passage of said cartridge
Eetmeen tem. ®
The device for feeding the cartridges
‘30 from the magazine to the loading bri
may consist of one or more feeding arme,
which at the movement of the barrel,
caused by the recoil, frst are moved up:
wards in relation to the cartridges in the
magazine and then downwards, simulfane
ously causing the cartridges to move down
one step, whereby the Towost eartride in
the magazine is fed to the loading tray.
‘The invention will be explained. in
40 greater detail in. the following by. refer
ence fo the embodiment iitusrated in the
sccompanying drawings,

‘The ramming mechanism consists of a
cylinder 6 formed in the bottom side of
the loading tray and containing a spring

agai
sear end-wall 8 of the eylinder, the other
cod bearing against a collar 9 eitached te
a sliding bar 10 passing through the wal

supports a cross piece 11 in which tiv6
arms I2, 12 are pivotably mounted, said
arms serving os a rammer. ‘These’ aruis
fare each slidably mounted in stationary
guides 13 and 13¢ in such-a manner that’
‘the arms are moved in the guides when the
barrel recoils, the arms being simultane-
ously spread apart to such an extent that
the: cartridge cases being ejected back-
wards can pass between them. When
after the recoil the barrel is moving for
ward, the arms 12 and 1% axe moved
together in order to bear against the rear
end of the cartridge. fed to the loading
tray and-to ram the said-cartridge.
the foree for the ramming movement
of the arm is supplied by the spring 7,
whiclr is compressed at the forward moye=
ment of the barrel after: the recoil, the
cross piece H heing retained by the latch

position, at which moment tlie lever 15
Fr inurbced by a projection 10 located on
the cylinder 6, the latch 14 thus being
released, ‘The arms 12 and 12! are thus
5 foroed forward by the force of the com-
pressed spring 7 and bring with them the
Eartridge fed to the loading tray, to which
tartridge is imparted such a rapid move~
ment that it will be firmly rammed into
tho barrel. AS soon as the cartridge
brought into the barrel, the mechanism ig
automatically closed in known manner and
the gan is fred,
‘has been mentioned above that at the
45 upper side the loading tray is provided
with a channel 17 for guiding the cart-
Tidges, “In order to afford a still better
ruide for the cartridges above the loading
dge there are provided to rollers 18
and_18%, the cross section of which has
te form of a fow-pointed star, These
rollers together with the channel 17 form
‘a closed guide channel for the cartridges.
‘The rollers 18 and 18 constitute, more
over, the botiom of the cartridge magazine
Tocafed above the loading tray and are
rotatable about the shafts 19 and 10%,
Which are mounted in oblong recesses, the
Pullers by rotation thus being able ‘also
80 fo move apart in order to permit the pass-
aye of the cartridge lying lowermost in
the magazine. Normally the rollers are
pressed together by means of springs act-
Inge upon the shafts 19 and 19. The care.
Hdges are retained in the magazine by
means of a series of cartridge cramps 20
attached to each of the walls of the maga-
tine, said cramps being formed as latches
and consisting of arms which are mounted.
about journals and by means of springs
fe normally swing inwards. The cart-
Hage cramps in each series are located at
such a distance, each abovo the other,
‘hat their ends bear against tho upper side
of the cartridges, thus preventing them
from sliding upwards.
"fo Seed the cartidigs one by one down
to the loading tray 5 ihe cartridge eramps
21, BI! are provided, which are constructed
150 in'a manner similat to the cramps 20 and
fare" mounted about journals, 22,22
attached to vertical arms 23, 28. ‘These
farms are arranged on opposite sides of the
magazine and at the lower ends said arms
5 are ench provided with a roller 24, 2
which projects into a guide 25, 25% formed
in the lateral edges of the loading tray.
‘The arms 25, 25' are vertically movable in
guides in the walls of the magazine and
ft the recoil movement of the barrel they
will be given a downward movement by
neans of the guides 25, 25¢ and the rollers
D424, the cartridge cramps 21, 21 thus
fociling the cartridges downwards one step.
65 The arms 25, 25+ are not rigidly attached

to the members 26, said arms and mem-
bers being coupled together by means of
springs 27, inserted between the upper
Portion 28° bearing against the danged
Portion of the arms 25, 23', and a head
39" bearing against a projection 30 on the
Inembers 26._ ‘The above mentioned spring
dlovices serve to take up the shocks be-
tireen the arms 23, 28" and the members
26 in the case of a cartridge jamming in
the feeding movement. The | upper
Hanged portion of the arms 28, 23! thus
préss upon the pars 28 thereby compress-
Je the springs 27 as will be easily under-
stood. ‘The lowermost cartridge will thus
hy totating the vollers 18 and. 18! a
quarter of x revolution and moving the
fame apart, be fed down to the loading
ina. After the recoil, when the barrel
again is moved forward, the arms 23, 231
ill be foreed upwards and the cartridge

Of the cartridges, which ave retained by
the stationary cramps 20, and then catch
the cartridge next above,
‘Having now particularly described and
ascertained the nature of our said inven-
tion and in what manner the samo is to
he “penformed, we declare that what me
