1.0 PURPOSE
This guideline has been developed to ensure ail personnel of MZEC are provided with, and
wear, the appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE} to protect themselves against
work related hazards which may endanger their health and safety.
20 SCOPE
This procedure applies to all employees of MZEC and its contractors where MZEC has
control,

5.0 PPE
5.1 Head Protection
Suitable Head Protections shall be wom in constructional sites as well electrical stations

Suitable protective goggles, face shield or screens shall be wom by personnel
involved in, assisting with or adjacent to any activity where there may be a danger of
Projected debris, dust, sparks or other parties: corrosive fluids or mist ; excessive healt, ight or
other harmful radiation, Such work situations include, but are not limited to:
* Working with rotating equipment such as grinder, dil, lathes.
* Cutting and welding
+ Chipping, chiseling or caulking,
‘+ Using power bolt ativing tools.
* Working with chemicals.
* Battery Maintenance:
* Working with paints, disinfectant, pesticides or other toxic hazardous fluids.
* Working in the open with winds blowing sand.
5.3 Respiratory Protection
Respiralory Protection Equipment shall be available to all persons who are exposed to any
situation in which there is a possibility of the atmosphere being or becoming deficient in
‘oxygen oF containing any harmful substance, whether particle, dust mist, vapor or gas
incluging:
+ Work in containers or vessels where a danger of oxygen deficiency or harmful gases
may be present.
* Work in shafts, sewer or enclosed septic tanks.
* Painting, spraying ot applying hazards substances.
5.4 Hearing Protection
Hearing Protection shall be ear plug or ear muff. Hearing protection shall be made
available to all workers exposed to noise levels of 85dB(A) or above. The selection of hearing
protection sholl be in accordance with the type of noise hazord and the work being
performed.
In all work enviionments where the noise level is at or above 85d8(A], prominent signs in
English and the relevant local Language shall be displayed indicating the need for ear
protection. A visual sign in the form of a line drawing of ear mutts shall also be displayed.
In general, hearing protection wom frequently shall be issued on a personal basis.

Hand and Arm Protection
Adequate hand and arm protection shall be available for ail manual labour. The type of
protection wom shall be selected according to the hazard to be protected against. These
include but not limited to:
+ Electrical hazords that may encounter
+ Impacts, cuts, abrasions and infection
Extremes temperatures.
* Chemical, toxic, corrosive and other hazardous substances.
Hand and aim protective devices shall be regularly inspected and replaced when.
Physically damaged, or contaminated by substances|such as greases, paints, diiling fluids
‘or chemicals) which might impair their effectiveness or safety.
Body Protection
All employees working in construction and electrical stations shall wear coverall
Adequate body protection such as special suits, apron, leggings, etc., shall be provided for
any work which involves hazard such as described. Specific and adequate body protection
shall be supplied for all work activities which present these hazards, including but not limited
to:
* Working in extremes of temperature, such os fitefighting, heating fumace
attendance, working in refrigeration plants, etc.
* Welding, burning, cutting and grinding.
+ Handling Battery electrolytes
+ Cleanup and disposal of hazardous waste (Asbestos, chemical, hydrocarbon, etc).
Satety Hamess and Lifelines
Safely homess and lifelines shall be provided, worn and properly secured in all work
situations where any of the following danger exist ;
+ Falling from a height greater than 2m.
* Toxic atmospheres or oxygen deficiency.
Such situations include, but are not limited to :
* Working on scatfolding.
* Work on any high structure, Electrical Tower and Overhead lines
