The new online lesson plan requires students to find their own materials, provides more opportunities for individual participation through discussions and reflections, and allows students to choose between making comic strips or videos for their final assignment. Evaluation is now based on rubrics and evidence of each student's contributions rather than just a group project.

Evaluation

Activities
Old Lesson Plan F2F class
Teacher provides all materials
New Lesson Plan Online Class
Students are required to find at least one video clip/ article/ comic strip that pertains to lesson topic
Evaluation based on final
assignment (group project: comic strips)
Evaluation based on rubric criteria,
tangible proofs of individual student engagement, i.e. discussion, level of language, participation in final assignment, reflective journal entry
The teacher is unable to
evaluate every students contribution to discussion (there are 5 teams of 3) Some students participate less than others or do not participate at all. The teacher has to circulate and tries to pay attention to every team working in the classroom, but its not physically possible. Only very few students offer a reflective comment. No choice offered: every team has to work on comic strips
All students have to participate in the
discussion and pull off their weight in group projects All students reflect on what they have learnt (blog entries)
Students have a choice between making
comic strips or videos, which increases student engagement
