Announcements: Please continue to check your childs Rocket Folder every night and initial his or her behavior chart. Curriculum Night for first grade will be on Tuesday, August 25th. Dinner will be served at 5:00 in the MPR and teachers will begin presenting at 5:30. Your child will be receiving a homework folder on Monday. Please note this is a change from last weeks newsletter. Homework folders are due every Friday and will be returned the following Monday. Please let me know if you have not received an email from me so I can add you to our class email list.
A Peek at Our Week
Reading/Language Arts: This week we will begin unit one in our Wonders reading series. Our phonics skill for this week is short a. In writing we will focus on using capital letters appropriately. We will also begin our Daily Five reading centers. The Daily Five will be explained in more detail on Curriculum Night. We will begin spelling and reading tests Friday, August 21st. Math: This week we are beginning addition. We will practice adding numbers 0-10 using various mathematical strategies. We will also be learning new math games to reinforce these skills. Social Studies: This week we will learn about our where we live. We will discuss important people and places in our community.
