Hot Ears Headband

Size: finished size determined by preference
Mine was about 3.5” x 21” (9cm x 53.5cm)
Not including the ties
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran
#300611 (red) , #08 (brown) 1 ball of each
Needles: US size 6 / 4.0 mm or size needed to
obtain gauge
Gauge: 5.5 sts, 5 rows = 1inch (2.5cm)
I love that the thickness of the stranded pattern adds insulation
to keep your ears nice and warm – hence the name ☺
The only difficult portion of this pattern was figuring out how
to do the decreases at the end while maintaining the integrity of
the outside border color. I found that while still working the
stranded section, I could do the decreases in the CC without
messing up the pattern at all. This is different than the
beginning of the headband where the increases are worked 1 st
in from the edge.
*you can slip all 1st sts for a neat edge.

Headband Pattern:
CO 3 sts, work 3 stitch I-Cord for 5 inches (12.5cm)
Row 1(RS): K1, M1R, K1, M1L, K1
Row 2 (WS): P all sts
Row 3: K1, M1R, K3, M1L, K1
Row 4: P all sts
Continue increasing in this manner until 19sts across.
At the same time:
Row 8: attach CC (contrast color) and begin
working chart as shown.
Follow pattern repeat (enclosed in box) until full width
headband, 19 sts, covers ears: approx. 17.5” (44.5cm) for
me this was 6 repeats

Work 6 more rows in stranded pattern and then work

decreases as follows:
Notice my little “<” mark beside the chart: this is whatever row you
have chosen to start your decreases on after completing your repeats-
should be a RS row

At row “<”: K1, K2tog, K in patt to last 3 sts,

K2tog, K1
**This is the only row with decreases not hidden in the CC.
All other decreases made during stranded work should be
worked (In the CC) to maintain at least a 2 stitch
MC border on the outside.
At 3 sts remaining, work I-cord for 5 inches,
Weave in ends.
Wet block to keep edges from rolling too much.
