Tube and bus strikes

could shut down London

ext week tube workers are set

to take two 24-hour strikes in
their fight against enforced
night working and other attacks.
The two previous strikes have
shown the enormous power that
transport workers have, just like
the London-wide bus strikes did
earlier this year.
Although sadly one of the
drivers unions, Aslef, has pulled
out of the action, the other three
unions are still set to deliver hard
hitting action.

Rattled

The employers are clearly rattled

and are making concessions.
Transport for London admit
that if strike action goes ahead
services will still be severely
disrupted from Tuesday to
Saturday.
Once again Transport for
London and City Hall will rely
on bus drivers to keep the capital
moving.
That means drivers carrying the
full weight of the massive number
of extra passengers with all the
extra stress that involves.
Although Unite says that
progress is being made with bus
operators in the campaign to win
one rate for the job in London,
surely the buses should be out with
the tubes?
Joint action with underground
workers really would bring the
capital to a halt.

With a live ballot, bus drivers

would be in a much stronger
position to win justice if Unite
seized the chance to strike with the
tubes.

Mood

There is a growing mood to halt

the attacks on workers pay and
conditions.
The massive anti-austerity demo
in London in June and the support
for Jeremy Corbyn for Labour
leader shows how many people are
sick of years of cuts and austerity.

United action by transport

workers across London would be a
huge step forward and could finally
turn the tide in workers favour.
