My name is Mariah Rutter and I am a graduate of Shippensburg University. Since
December 2014, I have had the opportunity to substitute in three separate school districts. I have
learned a lot from substitute teaching. Substituting has allowed me the opportunity to discover
strategies in terms of classroom management and instruction. I have enjoyed taking time to learn
more about teaching and myself as a teacher. However, I am ready to take on a classroom of my
own for an extended period of time.
For the past year, I have gained experience working with children, both in formal and
informal settings. This past summer, I received a three month employment opportunity at South
Mountain YMCA camps. During my time at South Mountain YMCA camps, I worked five
weeks at Bynden Wood Day Camp and five weeks at Camp Conrad Weiser. I spent my days
working and living with children from ages 5 to 18. I gained additional experience through an
eight week placement at Big Spring School District and an eight week placement at
Chambersburg Area Middle School South. I started my professional career through a Substitute
Teacher position with three separate school districts. I learned a lot about various grade levels
and myself as a teacher, that have provided me with experience. Throughout this past year, I have
received training and gained experience in the areas of technology, planning, preparation,
classroom management, instructional delivery and professionalism.
Through my personal and professional experience, I feel I am qualified to take on the
