Grading policies follow the SAISD Grading Policy. The district-wide
Assessment Performance (9- week concerts) measures shall constitute 40%
of the students nine-week grade. Class Work, Quizzes and/or Homework
shall constitute 60% of the students nine-week grade.Assignments may
include, but are not limited to:

following infractions: no music, no pencil, chewing gum/food, talking,
not using hand signs, not using correct posture, not actively
participating, etc.
2. Practice LogsRehearsal tracks will be posted on the choir web-site.
Each week, students will be required to practice, and record how
many minutes they practice.
3. Signature Sheets/FormsStudents will be expected to turn in
signature sheets/forms on or before the due date for a completion
grade. Signatures sheets are used as a receipt for important
information that is sent home via written correspondence. If not
turned in, the student will earn a ZERO.
4. Score StudyStudents will be expected to spend some time with
each new piece of music handed to them. Instructions are attached.
5. Timed Solfege QuizStudents will have a set time to fill in the solfege

before/after school rehearsals deemed MANDATORY. Grades will be
100 for being in rehearsal on time, and a ZERO for absence. Tardiness

Concert ReflectionsStudents will write a reflection, on
personal performance by listening to, or watching choir concerts and
assessing how they did.
11.
Assessments include, but are not limited to one concert, each
nine-weeks. Concerts are REQUIRED for each student. Dates of the
concerts are on the calendar, and WILL NOT CHANGE. Any missed
concert will result in a ZERO. A doctors note will be required for the
opportunity to make-up that zero.
12.
Work will be considered late if not submitted upon entering the
classroom. Work is not to be left under a teachers door; or in the
teachers mailbox; or on the teachers desk. Students will submit
work to the teacher personally. All late work will have an automatic
30 point deduction for being late if submitted by 5 p.m. on the
assigned due date, plus any other deduction based on quality of
work. If work is not received by 5 p.m. on the day it is due, the grade
will remain as a 0 (zero).

LETTER JACKET REQUIREMENTS

High school students have the opportunity to earn a letter jacket in choir. To
earn a choir letter jacket, a student must earn 200 points. Points are earned
by participating in various activities throughout the year. I will provide all
high school students with a form to fill out at the end of the school year.
These forms will be filled out on the HONOR CODE. As the director, I have
final say as to who can earn her letter jacket regardless of how many points
were earned. Please see the attached Letter Jacket Points Form.
CHOIR FEE
An administrative fee of thirty dollars ($30) is assessed to every choir
member. This fee is used for:
1. Formal Uniform-$15 (dress cleaning for 7th-12th grades, choir polo
for 6th grade)
2. Informal Uniform-$10 (choir t-shirt)
3. Choir Folder and Supplies-$5 (choir folder, pencils, pouch, rehearsal
CDs, etc.)I will notify you as soon as possible of the choir fee due
date. If you need assistance, please contact Ms. Holloway.
**ALL FEES MUST BE PAID IN CASH. NO CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
REGION CHOIR
The region choir is a choir made up of 200+ students from all around the
north to northeast parts of San Antonio. School districts included in our
region include Alamo Heights, Comal, East Central, Cuero, La Vernia, New
Braunfels, North East, San Antonio, Seguin, Schertz-Cibolo- Universal City,
and many more. Students prepare the region music, and audition as a
SOLO. It is a blind audition. Only about 30% of the students that audition
make the choir, so the competition is fierce. It is a wonderful opportunity
for students to build confidence, and musical independence, as well as
meet other students from around the region that are doing the same kinds
of things in choir that we are. I want to really encourage ALL of my students
to audition. Because this is a competition, eligibility will matter for region
auditions.
There is an audition fee of $10 that is paid directly to the region. If you
decide you want to audition for region, and MAKE THE COMMITMENT, the
choir will pay your entry fee. This audition fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. If

you make the commitment to audition but do not show up, you will be
charged $10 to reimburse the choir for the fee.
ELIGIBILITY
Many of the events we participate in require students to be eligible (passing
with at least a 75) in ALL of their classes. If you are struggling in a
particular class, and need assistance, please ask for help. Events requiring
eligibility include: Region choir auditions, 6th grade honor choir, HS Solo &
Ensemble, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading, and Festival Choir.
CHOIR WEB-SITE
www.ywlachoir.weebly.com
The choir department has a web-site. The web-site will be updated often
with announcements. It has a page for rehearsal tracks. The handbook and
calendar will be available on the web-site, as well. The password is:
cardinalchoir023 for those pages that require it.

Dresses should be hemmed to ONE INCH ABOVE THE FLOOR WITH SHOES
ON; not one inch above the shoe or ankle. Please hand stitch the hem
properly; DO NOT secure the hem with staples, safety pins, or tape (these
dresses must last at least 8 years). DO NOT CUT the dress for any reason;
that would permanently alter the size of the dress. Dresses do not fit tightly
to the body. They are designed to be loose for proper breathing. DO NOT
ALTER TO FIT THE BODY FORM. You may tack-up the shoulders of the
dress. DO NOT use any permanent stitching.
UNDER GARMENTS: Try to wear dark undergarments. SPORTS BRAS WILL
NOT WORK! They are visible while wearing the dresses. (or pin
undergarments so they wont show)
The SAISD Dress Uniform Policy while In Uniform:
1. Uniforms are assigned for student use on campus and other SAISD
performances. Students will sign a contract regarding personal
responsibility while using school property. At the conclusion of the
students school year, membership in the performing class and/or
moving out of the district, the student is responsible for returning or
making sure the uniform is in excellent condition. Replacement or
repairs of the uniform is the responsibility of the student.
2. ONCE A STUDENT CHANGES INTO THE UNIFORM, NO PART OF THE
UNIFORM MAY BE REMOVED UNTIL IT IS TIME TO CHANGE BACK INTO
STREET CLOTHES. SHOES STAY ON, APPROPRIATE JEWELRY ONLY, ETC.
COMPLIANCE TO THE OVERALL UNIFORM IS REQUIRED WHILE
ATTENDING ANY SAISD SANCTIONED EVENT AND THAT INCLUDES
TRANSPORTATION AND WAIT TIME. Trips outside of the region will be
addressed by the Director of Secondary Fine Arts as needed.
3. All uniforms are stored in the campus Music Building in-between
performances. Uniforms are NEVER assigned for take-home. Upon
arrival at the music building students will change into uniforms prior
to a performance. Students will change back into street clothes
following their return to campus. They will check-in their uniform prior
to dismissal. Directors must confer with the Fine Arts Department
regarding any changes to this policy.
4. Students are responsible for the overall condition of the uniform while
assigned to her. Irresponsible use and damage to the uniform is the
financial responsibility of the student.

5. Uniforms may not be used for events outside of the performance

requirements of the organization (prom, other school dress
requirements, personal events, etc.).
6. In Uniform means adhering to the rules of conduct and district
policy while representing the organization. Exemplary behavior is
expected of all SAISD students while performing, when not
performing and to and from any performance venue/event. The
uniform highlights who we are and we are always under scrutiny
representing our school, district and music groups in general.
Warning: DO NOT PLACE A HOT IRON DIRECTLY ON THE DRESS BECAUSE IT
WILL DAMAGE THE MATERIAL. PLEASE PLACE SOME KIND OF AN IRONING
CLOTH OR TOWEL ON TOP OF THE UNIFORM.
Any student that is not in proper performance uniform will not be allowed to
perform, and her grade will reflect that.
The uniform listed above is property of SAISD/YWLA. All uniform parts must
be accounted for when leaving the campus and/or school district and at the
end of the school year. Uniforms that are missing, destroyed and/or
maliciously vandalized will be charged to the student for replacement cost.
Failure to account for and/or return uniform items is an offense that will be
reported to administration.

PERMISSION TO RECORD (DUE

8/28/2015)
During the course of the year, students are periodically
recorded on video and/or audio for later critique. Recording is
part of the learning experience, and this process is often crucial
for the progress of the group. Also, occasionally, as part of our
performing service to the community, we are asked to be a part
of photographs or video taken by audience member and/or
sponsor organizations. These photos are sometimes used in
promoting a particular place or sponsor. The yearbook staff, our
historians, or a school administrator may also sometimes take
pictures of the choir during class or performances. These
pictures may be published.
Wed like all of our choir members to be a part of these
pictures and recordings. No child likes to feel left out.
Parents/guardians, please sign the below permission slip for

15

general permission for your child to be recorded on audio, video,

CD, or camera. If you have specific concerns about a particular
event, please see Ms. Holloway (choir director) to discuss your
concerns.
Recordings made by the choir department WILL NOT be put
on any social media web-site, however might be posted on a
password protected page on the choir web-site for concert
reflection purposes. Pictures taken may be used in recruiting
new students, posted in the choir classroom, and/or on the choir
Instagram page, which is private to only those approved by Ms.
Holloway.
