What does it mean to really listen?

Real listening is an active process that has three basic steps.

1. Hearing. Hearing just means listening enough to catch what the
speaker is saying. For example, say you were listening to a report on
zebras, and the speaker mentioned that no two are alike alike. If you
can repeat the fact, then you have heard what has been said.
2. Understanding. The next part of listening happens when you
take what you have heard and understanding it in your own way. Lets
go back to the report on zebras. When you hear that no two are alike,
think about what that might mean. You might think, Maybe this
means that the pattern of stripes is different for the zebras.
3. Judging. After you are sure you understand what the speaker has
said, think about whether it makes sense. Do you believe what you
have heard? You might think, How could the stripes to be different
for every zebra? But then again, the fingerprints are different for
every person. I think this seems believe.

Heavens Grocery Store

Author unknown
I was walking down lifes highway a long time ago. One day, I saw a
sign that read GROCERY STORE As I got a little closer the door
open wide and when I came to myself, it was standing inside. I saw
host of ANGELS. They were standing everywhere.
One handed me a basket and said My Child shop with care.
Everything a Christian needed was in that grocery store. And all
you couldnt carry then, you could come back for more.
First, I got some PATIENCE. LOVE was in the same row. Further
down UNDERSTOOD, you need that everywhere you go. I got a box
or two of WISDOM, a bag or two of FAITH. I just couldnt miss the
HOLY GHOST, for it was all over the place. I stopped to get some
STRENGTH and COURAGE to help me run this race. By then, my
basket was getting full, but I remembered I needed some GRACE.

I didnt forget SALVATION, for SALVATION was free, so I tried to get

enough of that to save both you and me. Then I stared for the
counter to pay my grocery bill. For I thought that I had everything,
to do the MASTERSs will
As I went up the aisle, I saw PRAYER. I just had to put that in, for I
knew when I stepped outside, would run right into sin. PEACE and
JOY were plentiful, they were last upon the shelf, SONG and PRAISE
were hanging near, and so I just helped myself.
Then, I said to the angel, Now how much do I owe? He smiled and
said How much do I really owe? he said, MY CHILD, JESUS PIAD
YOUR BILL A LONG TIME AGO.

A Friend
A simple friend has never seen cry. A real friend has
shoulders soggy from your tears. A simple friend
doesnt know your parents names. A real friend has
their phone numbers in his address book. A simple
friend a bottle of wine to your party. A real friend
seeks to help you with your problems.
A real friend comes early to help you cook and clean,
A simple friend hates when you call after he ahs gone
to bed. A real friend asks you why you took so long to
call. A simple friend seeks to talk with you about their
problems.
