What is the History Fair?

The History Fair (which is part of the National History Day competition) is a program that
allows students to research on a world, national, state, or local topic

THIS YEARS THEME:

Exploration, Encounter,
Exchange in History

Its not just a day,

its an
experience.

Topic Selection
Students will choose
topics from a
provided list.

Im open to topics not on

the list, but you must show
me how they relate to
theme AND the syllabus.

Each
individual/group
cannot select a topic
that has already
been selected by
another
individual/group

What does the theme mean?

EXPLORATION
Can be the literal
exploration of unknown
lands (at least to the
explorers). But also can be
related to the sciences or
even the vehicles of
exploration, such as planes
or rockets.

ENCOUNTER
Exploration often leads to
new encounters - with
different peoples,
unfamiliar environments,
and new ideas. Often,
exploration leads to
subjugation or occupation
of other groups of people.

EXCHANGE
It is impossible to have
Exploration and
Encounters and not have
some type of ideas
exchanged. Can be many
types of exchanges, such
as goods, food, ideas,
diseases, or gunfire.

It does not need to literal,

but can also be the
exploration of new ideas,
concepts, or theories.

Can occur between

familiar parties. For
example, think of warfare
and the changes it causes.

But its not just physical,

can be beliefs, customs,
political systems, and
ideas.
