This learning activity asks students to observe leadership styles at their place of employment. Students will analyze the role of nurse leaders in promoting quality and safety, and evaluate their own and others' leadership skills. To prepare, students will read assignments and reflect in an online discussion post about leadership within their clinical setting, citing sources. After working hours, students will complete a reflective discussion post about their observations and connections to prior leadership knowledge. Instructors will provide feedback to help students deepen their understanding of concepts. Completion will be evaluated based on a grading rubric. Using students' own workplace allows for a student-centered activity relevant to their experience as practicing nurses.

Using the students current place of employment is
ideal for a working nurse continuing their education. The activity is student centered and they will get as much out of it as they are willing to put into it. Because the students are current RNs and have rich experience with leaders and managers, this activity is a good fit.
