Liam slowly opened his eyes when he felt a tremor pass through his cell.

Was that his mind playing tricks on him once again?

He lifted his head at a slightly higher angle to gauge the two guards on the other
side of the cell bars facing away from him, still keeping his head tilted downwards to
feign sleep. They were still at their station, not moving an inch.

When the building shook once more, tiny particles of gravel sprinkling onto his
head, it only confirmed what he suspected. The entire facility was under attack.

The guards exchanged looks then quietly to each other, their voices too faint for
him to discern in his current state. One of the larger guards turned around to
glance at him, before nodding his head to their other guard. With haste, the larger
guard exited the room while unsheathing his sword.

With only one guard in the room, he had had a slightly better chance to escape. If
only he could somehow sneak towards the bars and strangle the guard from behind.
But knowing his current drugged state, he knew his movements would be clumsy
and lethargic. The last thing he wanted at the moment was to alarm the guard and
have the guard incapacitate him.

He silently cursed to himself. If only he had his magic, he could easily spear the
guards skull, tear the cell apart, and escape. But the magic inhibitor were flowing
through his veins, poisoning and deteriorating every bit of mana in his cells. It
frightened him to think how it would affect him in the long run---but that was an
ordeal he would face in the futureif he could escape.
