The purity of shielding gases used for GTAW welding processes shal I be verified
by referring to the suppliers documentation and the composition shall be as per
WPS.
The Contractors' flow rate meter shall be used for measuring the
gas flow rate which shall be within the range of approved WPS.

3.4.S

Position & Weld Progression


The position and weld progression shall be as specified in WPS. In the case of
pipe welding, the starting point and the finishing point shall be distinctly marked
on the test specimen.

3.4.6

Welding Technique
The travel speed shall be as per approved WPS. Single electrode
deposition shall be used. Stringer or weave bead as per in WPS shall
be employed. The maximum weaving width shall be 3 X diameter of
the electrode. Initial/ interpass cleaning and back gouging shall be
as per approved WPS.

3.4.7

Preheat temperature
The preheat temperature shall be as per the approved WPS.The preheat and
interpass temperature shall be measured with calibrated temperature
measuring devices.

3.4.8

Electrical Characteristics
The type of current and electrical polarity shall be same as that
approved WPS. The amperage and voltage used for a particular
diaitieter electrode shall be within the range appmved WPS.

Inspection Procedure

3.5.1

Inspection of Test Assembly


3.5.1. 1 The test assembly shall be at least 18 inch above the floor level
measured from the bottom of the assembly.
3.5.1.2 Once tack:ed in the test position, the assembly shall not be removed
until completion of the test.
3.5.1.3 No more than four numbers of 0.5 inch long tacks shall be used in the
coupon butt weld area. Those tacks shall be made part of the
completed root pass.
