OFFICIAL SECRETS (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE, 2002

further to amend the Official Secrets Act, 1923

F.No.2(1)/2002-Pub. dated 7-10-2002.---The following Ordinance promulgated
by the President, is hereby published for general information:-Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Official Secrets Act 1923
(XIX of 1923), for the purposes hereinafter appearing;~
And whereas, the President is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it
necessary to take immediate action;
Now therefore, in pursuance of the Proclamation of Emergency of the
Fourteenth day of October, 1999, and the Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of
1999 read with the Provisional Constitution (Amendment) Order No.9 of 1999,
and in exercise of all powers enabling him in that behalf, the President of the
Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to make and promulgate the following
Ordinance:-1. Short title and commencement.--(1) This Ordinance may be called the
Official Secrets (Amendment) Ordinance, 2002.

It
shall
come
into
force
at
once
except
in
the Islamabad Capital Territory where it shall come into force on such date as the
Federal Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify.
2. Amendment of section 11, Act, XXX of 1923.--In the Official Secrets Act
1923 (XIX of 1923) hereinafter referred to as the said act in section 11,-(a) in subsection (1) the words "or Sub-Divisional Magistrate" shall be omitted:
and
(b) in subsection (3), for the words "District or Sub-divisional" the words
"Magistrate of the first class having jurisdiction" shall be substituted.
3. Amendment of section 13, Act, XXX of 1923.--In the said act, in section 13 in
subsection
(1); for the words "other than" the words "inferior to" shall be substituted.
