urgency to come up with the dwelling performance in the company,
how are you going to motivate your employees and work groups?

4a. Describe the natural of groups and group behavior within


organization. Identify the main differences between a group and a
team.
Groups in business organizations are, in effect, sub-organizations, and they require
management for ‘controlled performance of collective goals’: not only their own
collective goals, but those of the business organization as a whole.

The point of this definition is that there is a difference between a random collection of
individuals and a ‘group’ of individuals who share a common sense of identity and
belonging. Groups have certain attributes that a random ‘crowd’ does not possess.

• A sense of identity. Whether the group is formal or informal, its existence is


recognized by its members: there are acknowledged boundaries to the group
which define who is ‘in’ and who is ‘out’, who is ‘us’ and who is ‘them’

• Loyalty to the group, and acceptance by the group. This generally expresses
itself as conformity, or the acceptance of the norms of behavior and attitudes that
bind the group together and exclude others from it.

• Purpose and leadership. Most groups have an express purpose, whatever field
they are in: most will, spontaneously or formally, chose individuals or sub-groups
to lead them towards the fulfillment of those goals.
