Kyle Thompson

One of my favourite photographers ever.

WHO?

Kyle Thompson is an American photographer,

born in Chicago in 1992.
He is 22.
He started taking photos at the age of 19
after he took an interest in abandoned houses
nearby his home.
His favourite things to photograph were
empty forests, abandoned houses and selfportraits.
He is currently working in Portland, Oregon.
He doesnt/hasnt studied photography at
school or college.

WHAT?

His work encapsulates the nonexistent story line that only lives
for a split moment.
These images show the collapse of narrative, as there is no
defined story line with a beginning and end; instead, these
images create a loop.
His work is mainly self portraits and photographs of forests and
abandoned buildings.
I think the best way to describe his work is eerie and
sometimes creepy. He Photoshops thins like knives and fire into
his photographs and makes it look as though hes levitating.
However creepy his photographs may be they are none the
less absolutely beautiful, as I said at the start he is one of my
favourite photographers of all time and I honestly think theyre
breath taking, his pictures with angel wings are stunning.

HOW?

He currently use a Canon 5D Mark II and

either a 50mm 1.8 or 35mm 2.0 lens. I also
use a remote timer and a tripod.
He does not usually use artificial light (lighting
equipment), however he does sometimes use
softboxes.
To edit colours in Photoshop he uses curves.
