    JOB DESCRIPTION

    POSITION TITLE

    Custodian, Heavy Duty

    REPORTS TO:

    Custodial Supervisor

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    To provide and maintain a clean living and working


    environment for the St. Olaf campus community.

    AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
    1. Clean floors including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing.
    2. Clean bathrooms and showers.
    3. Collect and haul trash, placing containers for truck pickup.
    4. Wash walls, woodwork and windows.
    5. Set up rooms for special events.
    6. Perform routine plumbing tasks, such as freeing plugged sinks and toilets.
    7. Clean light fixtures and replaces bulbs.
    8. Remove snow from steps and walks at building entrances and terraces.
    9. Move furniture, supplies and equipment as needed or directed.
    10. Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
    11. Report items that need repair.
    12. Other duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.

    Essential:

    High School Diploma or equivalent combination of


    training and experience.

    Desirable:

    Vocational/Technical school training.

    Essential:

    Stable work history.

    Desirable:

    Previous cleaning experience; Operational experience


    with floor machines, hydraulic man-lift, snow blowers.

    PREREQUISITE(S):

    Satisfactory results from physical examination, and


    criminal background check. Dependent on custodial
    position, passing a driving background check will
    be required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    Ability to follow oral and written directions.
    Ability to perform consistent heavy manual labor.
    Ability to work well with a diverse community of students, educators, administrative and

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    1. Ability to perform repetitive movements.
    2. Ability to stand for long periods of time, to climb steps or ladders, to stoop, to reach, to
    bend at waist, to grasp, to move and/or lift up to 70 pounds.
    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
    1. Exposure to endure various weather conditions
    2. Exposure to various chemicals and solvents, as well as exposure to noise and dust.
    3. Equipment operated has various moving parts and must be operated following all safety
    procedures.
    WORK SCHEDULE:

    FTE: part-time to full-time dependent on custodial
