Nervous System

The nervous system works based on electrical signals

that stimulate the activities in muscles and glands.

The Brain
The brain is protected by the skull and is divided
into:

The Brain

Spinal Cord
Works as a cable that
transmits signals and
it goes from the base
of the brain to the
base of the back. It is
protected
by
the
vertebral column.

Reflex Arc
The reflex arc is the simplest behavior of the nervous
system.

Central Nervous System

Is formed by the brain and spinal cord, it receives and
process sensory information, elaborates thoughts and
orders responses.

Peripheral Nervous System

Is composed of neurons located outside the CNS, it
connects the CNS to the body.

Neurons
The neuron is the function
unit of the nervous system.
It is a specialized cell that
carries out four functions.
Receive information.
Produce electrical signals.
Transmit the signal.
Communicate with other
cells.

Neurons

The
cell
body
integrate
electrical
signals to produce a
big one called action
potential.

Dendrites respond
to stimuli from other
neurons or from the
external
environment, through
neurotransmitters.

Synapse is a very
specialized
union
among neurons, that
transmits
nerves
impulse
between
neurons.
