Local athletes perform well at state Junior Olympics

GREENSBORO Ten athletes from the Rolesville Athletic Academy and a Wake Forest High School graduate
placed in the top eight at the state USA Track and Field Junior Olympics this past weekend at NC A&T State
University in Greensboro.
All three of the Leacock brothers represented well for Rolesville Athletic Academy, especially the youngest,
Brandon. In the eight years old and under division, he placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.16
seconds, first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.50 and first place in the 800-meter run with a time of
2:37.60.
Dillion ran for the 11-12 year olds division and placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.48 and fifth
place in 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.97.
The oldest brother, Nathan, finished fourth in the shot put for the 13-14 year olds division with a distance of 32 feet
and 9.75 inches.
The lone girl for the Rolesville Athletic Academy squad who placed was Hannah Zenker. She won the 3,000-meter
run with a time of 11:19.05.
Another big winner for Rolesville Athletic Academy was Stephen Elliot. The 14-year-old won the pentathlon with a
score of 2,174 points. The pentathlon consisted of five different events: 1500-meter run, hurdles, long jump, high
jump and shot put.
For the 4x400-meter relay, the Rolesville Athletic Academy boys came in fifth. The team included Isaiah Walker,
Thomas Jaakobah, Bryon Clark and Lakeith Mobley.
Christian Bass, a recent graduate of Wake Forest High School, won the 200-meter dash in the 17-18 year old boys
division. His time was 21.7 seconds.
These athletes, as well as Mobleys brother Lakeem, will compete in the 2015 USATF Region III Junior Olympics
Championships July 9-12 at Hampton University in Virginia for placing in the top eight for their events.
