Major Causes That Led to World War II Cooperative

Learning

Describe the Class

This is a ninth grade World History class. This lesson plan will
consist of teaching students about World War II. There are 25
students in the class, 2 of which have ADD.

II

Objective(s)
Students will be able to recall important events that led to World
War II.

III

Procedures
1 The teacher will present the lesson on events leading
to World War II.
2 The teacher will lecture and use a Power Point.
3 Teacher will go over Japan taking over the Pacific,
Hitlers Rise, and money.
4 Teacher will then have students get in to teams of
four or five members each. This will make use of the

Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STADS). This

is the cooperative learning strategy.
5 Students will fill in a timeline on a worksheet of
events leading to World War II and the cause of it.
6 Students may aid each other to help them master it.
7 Teacher will tell students that they must help others
and work together. And the teacher must insist that
students work on the worksheet until they are certain
everyone will get a 100% on the quiz.
8 If students have a question have them ask their team
mates first.
9 Teacher will go throughout the class and praise
reams that are doing well.
10 Distribute a quiz and let students have enough time
to complete it.
11 Students must separate from their groups to be
quizzed individually.
12 Finally collect all the papers and grade them.
13 Teacher must figure individual and team scores.
14 Team scores in STAD will be based on team
improvements.
15 The next class day have the team scores listen on
the white board.
16 This makes it clear between the students that there
is a connection between doing well and receiving
recognition.
17 The teacher will compute group scores by finding the
average among the groups quiz results.

Grouping Structures
The teacher will have the students work in small-group discussions
to help each other master the lesson. This will help students learn
on their own. Since this class is a history class for older students it
should work well.

VI

Modifications
Students will be working in small groups.
Enough time will be given for each student to complete the quiz.
This will benefit the ADD children.

VII

Assessment
The teacher will add up the sum of each groups individual test
scores and divide it by how many people are in the group. This will
be the group score.
