Math This week we worked on multiplying large numbers by one digit and

digits. We also worked on multiplying with mental math. Our test on this unit
will be next Friday already! Our next unit will be on dividing by one digit divisors. Students who are not solid in their facts are going to continue to struggle. Keep working on those facts at home. We are at school, but many students need more practice than that.

Reading

Our story next week is about the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad that linked the west and the east. The workers faced many
challenges along the way. We will practice the reading skill of cause and effect. Our Reading test last Friday was not good at all! Fifteen students received a D or below. They have the opportunity to retake the test and have
been told to do so on their own time. You can also access student tests by
logging into mybigcampus.com with your childs log in information. They can
help you get to where you need to be.

Grammar Next week we will learn about main and helping verbs.
Writing This week we worked on publishing our Tall Tales in Word. We will
continue working on these next week and publish to Kidblog when we are finished.

Spelling- Our list focuses on contraction words. Students can practice

online at www.spellingcity.com/triton5.

Social Studies We took our Geography last week, and I was very

pleased with the scores. You are able to view the online test by going to
www.mybigcampus.com. Students have logins and can walk you through
how to access their graded tests. Our new unit is on Early Americans including Native Americans. We are going to be training students how to take good
notes. Students will then be able to use these notes on the unit test.

Science-This week we read about tools that scientists use and how they

use them. Next week we will work on understanding how and why controlled
experiments work by performing several investigations including investigation how high a tennis ball bounces on different surfaces.

Note From the Teacher:

In a few weeks we will launch our annual Tupperware sales. The fundraiser will run
through mid October. Students in 5th grade are strongly encouraged to sell as much as
they can. The money we raise helps with 5th grade supplies and helping offset student cost
for Camp Amigo. Please refer to the envelope coming home shortly for more details. The top
seller in 5th grade for Tupperware sales will receive a FREE Tupperware prize. The top seller
(per class) cumulatively for fundraiser sales will earn a FREE trip to Camp Amigo!!!! What a
deal! :) Thank you in advance for helping us raise money!
