Definition of Standards of Mastery

EE - Exceeding Evidence of Mastery
A student will receive an "EE" grade when his/her performance goes beyond expectations to show exceptional competency in a particular academic
area or task. An "EE" may take many different forms including, but not limited to, insightful, unusual and creative thinking or approaches. The "EE"
is not focused on a greater quantity of work, but rather, rewards a higher quality of work which demonstrates the ability to form true concepts and to
think beyond literal interpretations. Thinking is sound, well supported, and reflects superior understanding and creative critical thinking.
ME - Meeting Evidence of Mastery
A student will receive an "ME" grade when he/she demonstrates a thorough and correct understanding of targeted skills and objectives. An "ME"
indicates a strong performance. Students have a clear understanding of factual content and can perform specific tasks consistently in a correct and
satisfactory manner. An "ME" reflects a complete understanding of information and key concepts. These responses may be literal and linked to
factual content; they reflect sound thinking and an ability to support ideas clearly using critical thinking.
AE - Approaching Evidence of Mastery
A student will receive an "AE" grade when he/she is progressing toward mastery of key concepts and skills. While students have not yet attained all
the skills to demonstrate mastery, they show partial understanding and use of key concepts and necessary skills. Students show some competency,
but may demonstrate an incomplete or inconsistent application or performance. An "AE" indicates that this area of learning is a work in progress.
Partial proficiency may be indicative of misunderstanding or an inability to consistently perform a skill. An "AE" indicates that students are on the
road to mastery but may need improved effort, opportunities for more practice, or additional support to reach mastery.

BE - Beginning Evidence of Mastery

A student will receive a "BE" grade when he/she has demonstrated limited progress toward attainment of skills or concepts. A "BE" indicates a
serious lapse in understanding or performance. An indicator of a "BE" reveals that after interventions and additional support, development of skills
and proficiency have not been attained. Students demonstrate the beginning stages of understanding, but proficiency is only partially developed.
I - Incomplete
Is a temporary grade given as a placeholder until assignments can be completed due to illness or other excused absences.
