Birth of a refreshing idea

The product was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on

May 8, 1886.
Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a local pharmacist,
produced the syrup and carried a jug of the
new product down the street to Jacobs'
Pharmacy, where it was sampled,
pronounced "excellent" and placed on sale
for five cents a glass as a soda fountain
drink.

Pemberton
The life and times of Coca Cola
Dr.Pemberton never realized the potential
of the beverage he created.
He gradually sold portions of his business
to various partners and, just prior to
his death in 1888, sold his remaining
interest in Coca-Cola to Asa G.
Candler

In 1889, Asa Candler published a full-

page advertisement in The Atlanta
Journal, proclaiming his wholesale and
retail drug business as "sole Asa G. Candler
proprietors of Coca-Cola ... Delicious.
Refreshing. Exhilarating.
Invigorating."
Mr. Candler formed a Georgia corporation
named The Coca-Cola Company.
Initial capitalization was $100,000
Name and Logo

 The name was suggested by John Pemberton’s

book keeper, Frank Robinson who was an
excellent writer. It was he who scripted ‘Coca
Cola’ into the flowing letters that have
continued as the famous logo till today
Coca-Cola in India
 Coca-Cola was introduced in India in the
1960’s and was India's leading soft drink until
1977 when it left India after a new
government ordered the company to turn over
its secret formula for Coca-Cola and dilute its
stake in its Indian unit as required by the
Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA). In
1993, the company returned in pursuance of
India's Liberalization policy
