OBJECTIVES

To observe whether inertia acts on either the hard-boiled egg or the raw egg.
To observe what happens towards the egg that the inertia is acting on.
To observe how inertia act towards the egg.

THEORY
Newtons first law of motion states that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in
motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted
upon by an unbalanced force. Objects tend to keep on doing what theyre doing. In
fact, it is the natural tendency of objects to resist changes in their state of motion. This
tendency to resist changes in their state of motion is described as inertia.
APPARATUS

Hard- boiled egg

Raw egg

PROCEDURE
1. Both eggs are labelled, the raw egg is labelled A while the hard-boiled egg is
labelled B.
2. Both eggs are spin at the same time and equal force.
3. Then both are stopped with a finger lightly on them.
OBSERVATION/ RESULTS
The hard-boiled egg stops first while the raw egg keeps turning a little bit.
DISCUSSION/ CONCLUSION
When both of the eggs are spin at the same time and equal force, the eggs are spinning
continuously until a finger is put lightly on each of the eggs to stop the eggs. The hardboiled egg immediately stop while the raw egg keep turning a bit. This is because the
hard-boiled egg is solid inside and outside while the raw egg is liquid on the inside, so
when the raw egg is stopped, only the shell is being stopped, but the liquid is still
moving, which causes the shell to keep turning.

APPARATUS

A pail of water

PROCEDURE
1. The pail was filled with average amount of water, not too much and not too little.
2. The pail is spin vigorously.
OBSERVATION/ RESULTS
The water did not spill even a drop.
