    Unit One: Drawing with line

    WHAT IS CONTOUR LINE DRAWING?


    Shows the outlines,
    shapes and edges of a
    scene
    Omits fine detail,
    surface texture, color
    & tone
    Contour is French for
    outline
    Continuous Line:

    The drawing is created


    without ever lifting
    your pencil off the
    paper.

    WHAT IS BLIND CONTOUR?


    Contains lines that are
    drawn without ever
    looking at the piece of
    paper.
    Forces you to study a
    scene closely
    Goal isnt to produce
    realistic artwork but to
    strengthen the
    connection between
    eyes, hand, & brain.

    BLIND CONTOUR PORTRAITS


    We will be working with a partner to create
    continuous blind contour portraits.
    What to do:

    Sit across from your partner

    Place your sketchbook in the paper bag.

    Begin sketching
    This will force you to focus on what youre looking at while
    you are drawing!
    Its important as artists to use our eyes to communicate
    with our hands to work toward creating more realistic
    drawings.

    This is a Continuous Contour drawing, DONT LIFT
