Learning Journal Expectations
Reflecting on work outside of school is an important part of the learning process. Making
connections between our school lives and the world grounds us in our learning. This year we
will be implementing Learning Journals to document this. Each week students will receive a
series of prompts and questions for their Journals. Demonstrations will be done to ensure
understanding of how to respond to the prompts. Prompts may include (but are not limited to):
Read 20 minutes each night and record what you read. Write a story about your favorite part of
the week. Solve this math problem: 43 + 45 = ? and draw or write to show how you solved it.
Explain how a seed becomes a plant.
Expectations
Learning Journals should be written by students, unless given an exception by the teacher
(just ask!)
Learning Journals should be completed and handed in on Fridays so you can have the
weekend to be duty free
Learning Journals are about tracking growth, reflecting over the course of our two years
together, and parents sharing in academic experiences with their children - not about
evaluation
Learning Journal prompts will be posted to Schoology each week.
If you are absent please download it from there.
