A SPEECH FOR A TEACHERS RETIREMENT

We're here today to show our respect and love for SMK(P) Bandarayas own Pn
Manjit Kaur a/p Surat Singh.
Like Tunku Abdul Rahman spending years leading his people to a promising future,
Pn Manjit has spent exactly that long leading students during her accomplished
tenure in this school. She has touched all of our lives during this time, and we are
sad to see her go.
Everyone in this hall knows that you don't go into teaching to make a lot of money people become teachers to make a difference to the students that are in their class,
to teach them that they can accomplish their goals and become whoever they want
to be in this world.
Pn Manjit took every advantage of every spare minute she had to teach her
students. Sometimes, she would even quarrel with other teachers to get ahold of
our classs free periods. As a teacher, she would take every measure to finish our
syllabus because she knows that there isnt much time till she retires, and thats
what she did. I salute her for that. For being what a good teacher should be.
Pn Manjit was always available to help us to be successful. Even at the end of a long
day, she would concern herself for us. For example, she would fuss us to hand up
our essays or complete our folios even while were walking down the corridors. It
was quite stressful for us, though without someone to push us this way, we wouldnt
have been able to complete it by ourselves.
Pn Manjit has been an amazing teacher, but she is also a great godmother and
friend. There are times when you need to share secrets or things that burden you,
she would always be there to help out and lend an ear.
When I think of Pn Manjit I'm reminded of the following quotation by John Steinbeck.
"I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist, and that there are as
few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the
arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit."
Pn Manjit, you are one of the great artists of the teaching profession. You have made
a lasting impression on the world through the lives of the students you have taught.
Thank you and happy retirement!
