Dear Parents and Guardians:

As our school year begins, I would like to welcome you and your family into the music community here at President Barack
Obama Learning Academy. My name is Mrs. Yung and we are very excited to have you, and want to take this time to
celebrate not only the hard work your child will put into the next year in music class, but also the skills that they will
develop through their classroom and ensemble experiences. Below is a sample of some of the skills and activities your child
will learn and do while in class:

Singing alone or with others

Recognizing simple and complex music notation
Performance skills
Creating own musical work

Composer work book

Bucket Drumming
Creating an opera
Dancing with scarves to music

Since we are a musical family there are a few expectations that will make your childs classroom environment not only
warm and welcoming but also organized and chaotic free. I like to use the M.U.S.I.C acronym to help your child understand
my classroom expectations.
M Make good choices
U Use kind words
S Show respect to the teacher, classmates, and music
I Involve yourself
C Care for the classroom and the instruments
If your child is having difficulty following these expectations they will receive the following course of action:

Verbal warning
Removal of Dojo points
Removal from classroom activity, book work will be assigned
Parent contact

Since music is more participation based your childs grade will mostly reflect that, however, there are other factors that will
be included into your childs music grade. Below is a breakdown of your childs grade.
