HUMAN RIGHTS 5 KEY
FEATURES
U: Universal
I: Inherent
I: Inalienable
I: Individual
I: Interdependent

UNIVERSAL
Suggests

that they apply to all

people at all times regardless of
circumstances. That is they equally
apply to al regardless of culture,
gender, status. Nationality, age,
sexuality or any aspect that can be
used to distinguish between people

INHERENT
This

aspect of human rights suggests

that rights are intrinsic to humanity
and cannot be separated from the
experience of being human. It does
not matter if a person has a physical
or intellectual disability, because
they are human they have, as a
feature of being, fundamental
entitlements

Inalienable
This aspect of human rights suggest
that they cannot be removed, given
up, traded or sold. Nations can
legislate against rights and can punish
the expression of rights but rights
cannot be taken away, even if a
person tried to give them up.

Indivisible
This aspect of human rights suggests
that all rights are equally important
and that no rights are better than
other rights. All people are entitled to
the full expression of each and every
human right, not just some rights and
not just partial recognition of rights.

Interdependent
Suggests that the enjoyment of rights
depends on other rights. In order to
fully express any right, other rights
must also be freely expressed.
