Definition
• The presence of contaminants in the
atmosphere that tends to cause
harmful effects to humans, animals
and plant life.
• The presence of contaminants that
disrupts/interferes with the
comfortable enjoyment of life, or
property or business.

• A substance dwelling in the air which
alters/affects the environment
• Can be solid, liquid or gaseous
• Can be found in nature but large
portions are caused by human
activity

– Carbon dioxide
– Sulfur oxides
– Particulates
Effects:
– Increase in greenhouse gases
– Acidic precipitation
