Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10, 2015

1. This poster contest is open to all students in the San Antonio/Bexar County
area and will be judged based on the following categories:
Division 1: Pre-kinder & Kindergarten
Division 3: 3rd and 4th grade
Division 5: 7th and 8th grade

Division 2: 1st and 2nd grade


Division 4: 5th and 6th grade
Division 6: 9th thru 12th grade

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st- 3rd places in each division. Each school may
submit up to five (5) posters per division.

2. Posters may be on any aspect of fire prevention or fire safety education related
to the Fire Prevention Week Theme. In addition to our division prizes, special
prizes will be awarded to the posters with the Best Fire Safety Message, and
the overall Grand Prize.
3. Posters must be the original artwork of the individual students only; however,
family participation is encouraged for ideas on the theme of the poster. Home
fire safety and prevention is vital for all family members!
4. Posters must conform to the following rules or will be disqualified from
competition:
A. Size of poster: 14 X 22 (inches) - This is the only accepted size. This
is of a standard poster board.
B. Three-dimensional posters will NOT be accepted. Due to storage space
limitations, posters will be stacked flat.
C. Media: paints, watercolors, pencil, markers, pen, flat cutouts, etc.
D. Posters must be submitted flat, not rolled.
E. Posters must NOT have burned edges or incorporate burned items.
5. On the BACK of the poster, in the lower right hand corner, attach a 3X5
(inches) Index Card with the following information (typed or printed in ink):

Home Address and Phone Number
Students Age and Grade
Schools Name and phone number
Principals Name
Teachers Name
Fax Number or E-mail address (Optional)

6. Posters will be judged on the following criteria: artwork, neatness, originality,


and fire prevention message or fire education message.
7. Contest deadline is Friday, September 25, 2015. Call 210-207-8422 to
arrange for poster pickup from your School Office. The posters will be
collected by SAFD Community Safety and Education personnel during the
week of September 28 to October 2. After you arrange for poster pick-up,
please fax the attached document prior to September 25th to our office at 210206-2320.
8. Final judging will be conducted on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 12:00
to 4:00 pm.
9. All posters will be on display at the Alamodome from 1000am to 1200pm on
October 14, 2015.
10. All winning posters become the property of the San Antonio Fire Department
and may be exhibited at various locations or published on the SAFD website
or other SAFD publications.
11. As prize donations are confirmed, we will list prizes and the sponsors on the
Community Education page of the www.sanantonio.gov/safd/ website.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners during the SAFD Health and Safety Fair
on October 24, 2015.
Notice of the event will be advertised in the upcoming weeks and during Fire
Prevention Week.
Everyone is invited to this event!
