Project Overview
Japanese people are well renown for their attention to detail, precision, and beauty in various areas
including craftsmanship, martial arts, fashion, and automobiles to name a few. Time, energy, effort, critique
and revision are key components that result in professional quality work. Throughout the course of this
project, students will explore the significance of beautiful work in Japanese culture. Students will analyze
and discuss the motivation behind quality work and (ideally) commit to higher standards of product
submission in their own endeavors and HTHNC and in life. Students will also learn the art of investigating,
writing, and delivering a well researched presentation.

Approximately two weeks

Objectives
You will have an opportunity to read an excerpt from Shogun and discuss themes related to
Japanese culture!
You will have the opportunity to learn enjoyable ways to research, prepare, and deliver an
informative presentation!
You will have the opportunity to create a visual representation of the aspect of Japanese culture
you selected!
You will have an opportunity to incorporate Ron Bergers Kind, Specific, and Helpful Critique
format and celebrate the revision process!
You will have the opportunity to learn about Japanese culture from your peers!
Final Products
A two minute well researched presentation on the aspect of Japanese culture you selected, a
minimum of three credible sources (.gov, .edu or .org with the exception of wikipedia).
A visual representation of the aspect of Japanese culture you selected (sketch, paint, animation etc.)
Multiple drafts of the research script and multiple drafts of the visual representation in order to
demonstrate the process.
